In the modern world, support workers who are qualified to solve problems with PC's and networks, along with giving regular advice to users, are indispensable in every part of the business environment. The world's need for such qualified and commercially astute people is ever increasing, as everything becomes more and more technologically advanced.

You have to make sure that all your qualifications are what employers want - don't even consider courses that only give in-house certificates. If your certification doesn't come from a company like Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco, then you may discover it will be commercially useless - as no-one will have heard of it.

One area often overlooked by people mulling over a new direction is the issue of 'training segmentation'. Basically, this means the breakdown of the materials to be delivered to you, which can make a dramatic difference to what you end up with. You may think that it makes sense (with a typical time scale of 1-3 years to achieve full certification,) that a training provider will issue one module at a time, as you pass each element. Although: What could you expect if you didn't actually complete every module at the proposed pace? Sometimes their preference of study order doesn't work as well as another different route may.

To be straight, the best solution is to obtain their recommendation on the best possible order of study, but to receive all the materials up-front. You're then in possession of everything in the event you don't complete everything quite as quick as they'd want.
